Colors on Picture Background
Sometimes
when you want to use a picture as a background for a title slide
it is difficult to select the best color for the text that will
show up over top of a background that is both light and dark at
different points on the screen.
|
| 1 |
The
image used in our example has light and dark areas, so,
any single colored font will show up better on different
parts of the screen. Below is white text. |
|
 |
| 2 |
Same
picture; dark font. The result is better, however, parts
of this text are difficult to read as well. You could
simply fill in the text box with a color, but that would
obliterate the portion of your image resting behind the
text. This tip shows you how to apply a transparent fill
behind the text. |
|
 |

The
effect of this presentation tip will be dramatically
revealed using the light shade of yellow below. Select the
text box. |
|
 |
| 4 |
Click
on the "Fill" setting. Select, "More fill
colors". |
|
 |
| 5 |
Select
a color that will harmonize with the general colors scheme
of the slide. |
|
 |
| 6 |
Set
the Transparency to 70% by positioning the slider a the
bottom of the control box to the right until 70% is
displayed in the window. Click on the "Preview"
button to see how this color will look. If you like it,
click on "OK". |

Now
that we have visual separation from the background we
think the text could be a little stronger with some
increased definition. Applying a drop shadow will
accomplish this. HOwever, because there is now fill in the
text box, simply clicking on the drop shadow button will
erase the transparancey effect. Therefore, we will add a
drop shadow by changing the format of the font only. To do
this click on "Format" from the top menu bar and
select, "Font". |
|
 |
| 8 |
Check
the box marked "shadow" in the box that appears. |
|
 |
| 9 |
The
end result is an interesting image will full clarity of
text and image. |
